I barely got anything done today, because I spent most of my day watching the milblog conference online. It took me a while to figure out why everyone was breakdancing and had blocks for heads on the streaming video. . .Then, uhhh, I realized I had one too many beers.
I’ll admit, this was the first time I’ve ever watched streaming video. . .really. . .what? I havent’ had this much fun online since I found UrbanDictionary.com. There’s “funny” --- and then there’s CJ --- and then there’s CJ running around the audience to get on camera, or CJ up at the podium asking questions to panelists like, “...we know JP can't be here today... but he'd like to ask, Boxers or briefs?”. But wait, there's more. If you joined in the online chat and video, CJ was live-chatting from the conference, giving us play-by-play SMASH drinking-updates:
“CJ_ASP (guest): He [SMASH] walked up and started massaging MRS Smash's back but the Blackfive told him to leave his shoulders alone. he was confused”.
I’m really feeling the whole milblogging thing even more now. One thing’s for sure, we need to get a petition to keep CJ blogging. Something has to be done. First things first though, "CJ, you got any more stories about SMASH?"

Oh, and if you try clicking on the link right now, here’s a newsflash, it’s not active just yet. It’ll be active by tomorrow…when the conference actually starts. That’s how streaming video works. It’s a good thing I’m adding that. Otherwise, you would’ve been staring at a blank screen all this time saying, “Damn, this conference is kinda boring without JP”.
Seriously, I wish I could be attending with all the friends I’ve made over the last 18 months. And while I’m not going to be there, I’m pretty sure it’ll be entertaining. As for the new little milblog on the way… nothing yet. Please Gawd, let them have internet in the hospital so I can watch the conference.

I realize not all of you are as good-looking and witty as I am, but give it a try. You never know. You can at least try to be funny. Being as good-looking as me, might be a bit harder. Unless of course, you pay for reconstructive surgery to make yourself look like Brad Pitt. Get some pectoral and bicep muscle implants. And get fitted for a wig that gives you James Bond-like hair. Damn, I shouldn’t blog while I’m taking medication for allergies. It makes you say the weirdest things.
Hopefully, when I wake up tomorrow morning my inbox will be flooded with all sorts of new terms for the online Milblogopedia like, “jerkface”, “egomaniac”, “donkey” and "drop-dead". No time to be selective, I’ll still add them.

Now the only real question, has my baby arrived yet…no, wait…ummm,..I mean, how’s the writing? Here’s an excerpt:
“...I was kneeling on the same ground that Abraham had kneeled on, supplicating himself to the will of God. I could feel the tide of history from those ancient days all the way to the current day where in this same land, a war was raging. A war that, to my mind, was a conflict between tolerance and hatred, between two cultures—one that accepted and welcomed different faiths and beliefs and another that was dedicated to wiping that acceptance from the face of the earth. I was keenly aware of the sacrifice being made by the Soldiers around me; these good men and women who had dedicated themselves to making this world a better place; these brave souls who were willing to leave their families behind and come to this barren place to risk their lives in the service of a higher cause.”

Anyway, as far as I know, the Conference is still going on April 22nd in D.C., Military.com is sponsoring the whole affair, and there are all sorts of activities going on before and after.
Here’s the latest update from the Milblog Conference site:
“On Friday evening, April 21, we're planning an informal meet-up at Pitchers Lounge, which is located inside of the Marriott Key Bridge Hotel. For those of you who can make it, come on over. We'll be there from
There will also be an announcement soon regarding a gathering that will take place on Saturday evening, post-conference.”

I’m sure most of you won’t get the Boohbah joke, but GunnNutt has posted a story about the Milblog Conference, which includes me (played by Boohbah). I’ll admit. It’s funny, despite that I grunt, squeak, burp, and fart. Sorry, that happens every time I eat Taco Bell. If I find some time this week, I’ll update this entry with pictures from the original Boohbah in
Here’s an excerpt from the story:
“...Well, one thing I know for sure - JP made this one in his own image and smell. Jeeeesh! Good thing we didn't eat the anything out of the garbage. I believe he's going to win any contest with CJ in this odoriferous category.
Funky smells aside, the wee "JP" is a laugh riot! I haven't a clue what he's talking about, but the way he says things with those grunts, squeaks, burps, farts and insane music is bound to have us all in stitches on the 22nd."
Thanks to SK for the tip.

Milblogopedia
Write your own definitions for the world of miltary blogs. To add a word, go here and submit the Word, the Definition, an Example, and an author’s name. For example, the word “Milblog”.
Word : Milblog
Description : Military Blog. Weblogs written by military bloggers.
We don't need more sissy reporters at the front. Just tell those pansies in the mainstream media to copy/paste from the milblogs.
By : KlubMarcus over at UrbanDictionary.com
Also, any time you’re reviewing a milblog on this site, and the milblog mentions a term in the Milblogopedia, the word will be highlighted. Click the word, and it will jump you to the definition in the Milblogopedia. I realize we need more blogging-terms like Milblogopedia like we need brain-eating cannibals, but it seemed appropriate.
Recently Updated
Now you can see which military blogs have been recently updated. There’s a chart on the right sidebar, a link at the top of the page in the Search box, and a link in the More Milblogs section (on the left sidebar). I guess if you still can’t find it after putting it in all those places, you’re out of luck. It’s also updated twice a day, or whenever I feel like it.
Add/View Comments to Military Blogs
If you’re a Milblogging.com registered member, you can leave comments for each military blog listed in the database. Kinda like a Book Review. Simply preview the milblog, and underneath the Gender box you’ll see an Add/View comments link. I haven’t written out the Guidelines, but use common sense. It allows you to review the military blog and leave a comment for other readers to get an idea of what people think. You know? Thumbs up or thumbs down. I’m sure as charming and delightful as I am, not everyone agrees with me. So, you can provide an honest review of my blog by going here, then click the Add/View Comments link. Remember, you must be signed in to use this feature.
Advanced Search
You can now search the actual content in milblogs that are listed in the database. That means, you can search by the Post Title or the last 5 Posts. This makes it easy to see whose talking about your blog in the milblog community. For example, if you enter the title of your blog in the Search box, and click Find you'll see what other blogs are talking about you. Try it. You can use the Search box at the top of the site to automatically search the Post Titles and Posts, along with everything else. At some point, I think visitors were getting fed up with the Search since it really only queried the blog description. Now, it searches everything. Why I didn’t do this before, I have no idea.

I think I’ll start it off: Love from the Latrine is one of my favorites. Why? Because it’s funny. Not like watching a CNN broadcast-funny, but ha-ha funny. The cool part about the blog is that the author incorporated photography. Now, before you run off and start reading Love from the Latrine to your kids, keep in mind the author rarely posts, it’s Military College Humor, and uh… the subject matter is about latrines.
Alright, it’s your turn. Go ahead and do the right thing...Leave a comment about some of the milblogs you read.

In his post, Mark even spoke with Colby Buzzell, the BlogFather himself, about the authenticity of the well-produced footage: “One military blogger, Colby Buzzell, whose My War blog has been turned into a book, told me that he thought these videos on YouTube were authentic, based on his experience in Iraq, and he had seen some of the same videos online at other sites. As for the reaction from the military brass, Colby told me “they probably don’t even know it’s going on — they have other things to worry about.”
Maaaan, I wish I had a title like BlogFather. Maybe it’s because I’d just like to finish all of my blog entries and emails that way so readers would always know what a 24-7 ultra-cool hardcore-s-o-b I really am. I mean, like when you read my blog you would be shaking and weeping because it would hurt to be in the presence of my greatness. I could write about my trip to the refridgerator, and all my readers would be like, did you see what the BlogFather did today? Only, when you write your friends, your keyboard would catch on fire from all the tears you shed, and the subject of your email would look something like this from all the shaking: “thek Blokhgfathher wemt t;lko the refffriiddddgerator.” Don’t worry, I still do the same thing every time I visit Colby's blog. I'm guessing it's normal...

I was thinking (Yes, I do that from time to time), if you want a tough name for a milblog, it’s safe to say JusticeSoldier.com wins hands-down as the world’s best name for a milblog. Most of you don’t’ know this, but the original name for this blog was pretty kickass, too. Three words: The Ninja Terminator. The only way my milblog could’ve been more testosterone-fueled was if I posted pictures of me swallowing live Camel Spiders. Take it from me; the best blogs are ones with cool names. Blackfive.net. Milblogging.com. 365 and a Wakeup. Milblogging.com.
Here’s an excerpt from JusticeSoldier.com’s blog:
As most of you know, I have been attending my Graduate Studies at night for a year and a half now. I am currently one class shy of my Master’s degree in Counter-Terrorism. This fascinating field has educated me more than I could have imagined, allowing me to see the current War in Iraq, and the Global War on Terrorism (GWOT) for its realities, not the bullshit coverage we all see on the nightly news. Our current state of affairs is the latest chapter in the epic campaign of good versus evil, of right versus wrong. I am entering into this battle in full conscious of my decision and what I have volunteered for on behalf of this Greatest of Nations. Iraq was the right thing to do, and the fight is worth it.

Here are some updates from the conference site.
Conference Happenings - The cocktail reception mentioned here is now cancelled and will be replaced by a catered luncheon on the day of the conference (April 22). Details will follow. Apologize for the change of plan, but the luncheon will be great. Thanks again to military.com for hosting this.
Panels in Place - With the addition of two more panelists, the panels for the Milblog Conference are set and we're ready to roll. The new panelists, both OIF Veterans, will be sitting on the Blogging From Theater panel. Welcome to Fred Minnick of In Iraq for 365 and Michael Fay of Fire and Ice. To view a complete list of panelists, click here.
