This song comes from my inner thoughts of myself,
As I journey through this world, for ... "I" ... Am ... A Soldier, too !

" I'm in the Army ... of ... THE ONE ! "

" In HIS service ... ONLY ... For HIM ! "

As I minister to our Troops, Veteran's & Fallen's families ... through song,
No doubt ... I'm on a Mission, Called by God
Touching hearts & lives of so many who are suffering loss ...
Like this song says,
" God only knows ... what I've seen & been through. "

Inspired by the Life, Service & Sacrifice of ...
ALL the BRAVE women
who step forward to serve this GREAT NATION !

On behalf of a grateful Nation,

Dedicated to the Life, Service, Sacrifice & Family and Friends of ...

" She's A Soldier, too "

Gone ... are the little girl curls
The giggles & wiggles ... of the teenage world
Gone ... is the woman
Into a grown up world ... She's gone ... Daddy's little girl.

* * *

She's a Soldier ... in the Father's Hands
She's a Soldier ... in a mighty plan
And, She would ... die ... for you,
She's a Soldier ... too !

She's a Soldier ... in a foreign land
She ... might have held ... dying hands,
And, God ONLY knows ... what she's seen & been through

She's a Soldier ... doing all she can
She's a Soldier ... ask ... any man
And, She would ... die ... for you,
She's a Soldier ... too !

* * *

( Spoken )

Gone ... are ... the ribbons & lace
Guns, armor & a vest ... took their place
"Heels" ... are now mountains ... she must climb
A "Dress" ... wounds ... soldiers bind.

She's a Soldier ... in a foreign land
She ... might have held ... dying hands,
And, God ONLY knows ... what she's seen & been through

She's a Soldier ... doing all she can
She's a Soldier ... ask ... any man
And, She would ... die ... for you,
She's a Soldier ... too !

Title:" Last Breath " ...

Oct. 15, 2008

Today, Larry & I were finally able to travel to Florida Natl. Cemetery in Bushnell, Fla. to pay our respects to my cousin who is interred there, Steve passed away one year ago today.
CW3 Steven Wendell Speights served our nation for 27 years.

His overseas assignments include two tours to Italy, Korea, Hawaii and Egypt, retiring at Fort Rucker in March 2005 as a CH-47 SIP/IFE.

His military awards include Master Aviator Wings, Meritorious Service, Army Commendation Medal (4th Award), Army Achievement Medal, Army Superior Unit Award, Army Good Conduct Medal (2nd Award), National Defense Service Medal (3rd Award), Korea Defense Services Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (5th Award), Multinational Force and Observers Medal (2nd Award).

Steven then went to work for Lear Siegler Services as an instrument flight instructor on Fort Rucker. Steven earned both a Bachelors and a Masters Degree from Emory Riddle University.

On Oct. 15th, 2007 ... one week after seeing Steve for the last time ... it was early in the wee hours of the morning, I had not been able to sleep as I was constantly thinking & praying for Steve, I could not stop crying ... so, I had waited until early in the morning to even "try" to lay down & sleep.

However, I could NOT stop thinking of Steve and what he was going through. As I lay there, reflecting on Steve's life, I was so happy he had a wonderful life, 27 year career in the Army, beautiful son, grandson and beautiful home & especially, love ... Iwas so moved as I recalled the love Steve had for his wife, his "One & Only Love" .

As I lay next to my "One & Only Love" ... my mind began racing with the thoughts of what I would be feeling with my " Last Breath " ... perhaps Steve was feeling similar thoughts as he was leaving this world, I couldn't get the thoughts out of my mind, I couldn't quit crying ... so, around 4:30 am, I got up & penned my thoughts ... it was "if" I had to, for Steve ... later that morning, I learned Steve passed, the very day the song was written.

I knew they would become lyrics to a song with music & melody to come at some point in the future, and, they did within a week or so.

But, it seemed everytime I was going to get the song recorded over this past year, "something" would get in the way, sickness, no cds, it was always something ... then, over time ... other songs came along & I felt led to finish them first, for whatever "reason" .

For me, usually that means something else is coming, indeed it did ... about a month ago, another melody came to me & I knew then it was to be part of this song, finally it was "complete" ... now, it made me feel the exact way I felt the night before Steve passed, as I lay there thinking about his " Last Breath " and his love for his "One & Only Love".

May it be a blessing to ALL who hear it ... " I Love you, Steve "...

You'll live in our hearts, forever !!!

ont-size:180%;">" Last Breath "

( For Steve & Linda )

With my " Last Breath " ... I'll speak your name.
My last thought ... will be ... of you, again!
As the last tear ... falls from my face
The last warmth I'll feel ... is ... your loving embrace,

With my " Last Breath "

And, with my " Last Breath " ... I'll whisper ... "I Love You"
It's the last thing on this earth ... I'll ever do.
And, may the last these eyes ... ever see
Be that " Look of Love " ... that you've given me ...

With my ... " Last Breath "

And, with my " Last Breath " .... I'll leave this place,
You ... keep my love ... as a warm embrace.
And, with your " Last Breath " ... I will call your name
There'll be no more tears ... no more pain ...

With my ... " Last Breath "

( Spoken )

And, Oh, how I lived & loved ... laughed & cried
We were ... two hearts ... that beat as one,
You ... and ... I
And ... we danced !

* * *

Now, there's one breath ... One touch
One tear ... Just ... one more hug
And, One last ... " I Love You "

For my One and ONLY ... LOVE,

* * *

Take my hand ... Let's dance
You still take ... my breath ... away
You're my ... One and Only ... love.

( Spoken )

And, Oh, how I lived & loved ... how I laughed & cried
We truly were ... two hearts ... that beat as one,
You ... and ... I
And ... we danced !

* * *

Now, there's one breath ... One touch
One tear ... Just ... one more hug
And, One last ... " I Love You "
my One and ONLY ... LOVE

* * *

( With my ..." Last Breath " )
( Take my hand ) ... Take my heart
You take ... my breath ... away ... ( Let's dance )

( With my ..." Last Breath " )
Take my heart ... ( Take my hand )
You take ... my breath ... away
( You still take ... my breath ... away ) ... ( Let's dance )

( With my ..." Last Breath " )
Take my heart ... You take my breath ... away

You're my ... One and Only ... Love !

* * *

( Spoken Slowly )

* * *

And, with my ..." Last Breath "
Take my heart ... Take my breath away,

" I Love You ! "

Today, Jan. 16th ... would have been my cousin Guy's "58" birthday ... Guy Lamar Mears, Jr.

Born Jan. 16, 1950 from Rockmart, Ga. ... Guy was KIA in Vietnam - Oct. 17, 1970 .

Guy, was one of only slightly over 1,000 who received The Distinguished Service Cross, out of the approximately 3 million who served in Vietnam.

*MEARS, GUY LAMAR, JR. (KIA)

Citation: The President of the United States takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to

Guy Lamar Mears, Jr. Specialist Fourth Class, U.S. Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam, while serving with 254th Medical Detachment, 45th Medical Company, 44th Medical Brigade, 1st Logistics Command.

Specialist Four Mears distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions on
17 October 1970.

On that date Specialist Mears was serving as a crew chief aboard a medical evacuation helicopter near Tuy Hoa, Republic of Vietnam.

The helicopter in which Specialist Mears was serving as a crew member exploded and started burning as a result of enemy fire.

Specialist Mears escaped from the burning aircraft unharmed, but when he discovered the pilot of the aircraft remained trapped inside he re-entered the fiercely burning aircraft at the risk of his life in order to save the lives of fellow crew members.

Specialist Mears continued his brave rescue attempt with total disregard for his own safety until he became incapacitated by mortal burns.

Specialist Mears' conspicuous gallantry, extraordinary heroism, and intrepidity at the cost of his own life are in the highest traditions of the United States Army and reflect great credit on him, and the United States Army.

Department of the Army, General Orders No. 23 (May 30, 1972) Home Town: Rockmart, Georgia
div align="left">* * * * * * *

As I sat here remembering Guy, another song was given birth from the depths of my soul, in loving memory of "Little Guy" ... " A River of Freedom " - (Taps) my spoken appreciation. ( Lyrics below ) Mp3 Coming soon.

I have ALWAYS been acutely aware of the "price" of freedom, and, have NEVER taken "my" freedoms for granted.

It's overwhelming, when you stop and "think" of what each and every person who steps forward in the name of freedom, is actually saying by their actions.

They are putting their lives on the line, and, those of their loved ones & friends ... for whatever they endure, ALL will be affected ... forever ... a ripple effect.

For those who return, they face a lifetime of dealing with the injuries and trauma of war, and, for those they left behind while they served, they too are forever changed as they deal with caring for those who served and, watching the anguish they go through as they struggle to understand the reasons "why" they lived and others died .

And, for those who must face a lifetime of loss, without their loved ones ... they face a lifetime of dealing with their sorrow, and, learning to carry on ... a never ending battle.

No doubt, "we" ... those who serve, have served or have loved ones who've served or paid the ultimate sacrifice ... "we" ... fully understand the meaning of "FREEDOM".

And, for me ... having lost my cousin, having endured my youngest son's deployment & subsequent TBI injuries ... and, having performed for so many of our nation's HEROES ... and talked with so many vets ...
there's " A River of Freedom " ... of appreciation ... that floods my soul ~

" A River of Freedom "
( Taps )

There's a river ... that floods ... my soul.
And, that ... " River of Freedom "
Carries ... my blood,
And, of those ... throughout ALL time
Who, for Freedom
Gave their blood ... Laid their lives ... on the line.
