Joining the Army will teach a person discipline, team work, and let you know if you are a leader. What the Army will not do is change you unless you want to be change.
The Army will bring out the inner person in you or not.

A few things you must remember:
In order to lead you must learn to fellow
You must understand and learn the military in order to make it work for you
If you don't get a bad leader, you will not know what a good leader is

Once you understand those things the Army is easy, and going to war is not as bad as you think, and it depends alot on you job as well.
