The book written by military for the military, "The Military Guide to Financial Independence and Retirement", sold over 600 copies during June-October 2011. Over 2900 copies of the 4"x6" 64-page pocket-guide version sold during the same period.

Over 50 servicemembers & veterans contributed their stories and advice to the book & pocket guide. The contributors also chose the military charities for the royalties. All of the royalties ($1136.15) were sent to Wounded Warrior Project and Fisher House. I don't mean "profits" or "a portion of" the royalties. I mean ALL of the royalties.

The charities will benefit if you rush out to buy the book today. (A Kindle version is also available at Amazon.com.) However first you should check your local libraries (especially if you're on Oahu). See if your military base's family support center has free copies of the pocket guide-- or ask them to buy them for their financial-education programs. Ask your state VA center if they've bought copies for their programs. You may even find the pocket guide being given away at a career fair. If you like what you've read then tell people about it. If you want to educate your troops then contact me or Impact Publications for huge bulk discounts on the pocket guide. If you're planning your transition, either to a bridge career or to full retirement, then read the blog and ask questions.

"The Military Guide" is not "just another benefits guide". It's not a job-search manual either. (Although Impact Publications sells both of those too.) We show servicemembers, veterans, and their families how to achieve financial independence and enjoy a successful retirement on their terms. It's not easy but it's straightforward and the numbers work for everyone: active duty, Guard/Reserve, and even those who've only served one obligation. Veterans have done it with a military pension or without it. Most families achieve it in 10-20 years, although a few exceptionally hardcore individuals have done it in five years. See book excerpts and more details at The-Military-Guide.com.

We're gathering more stories for future editions and the blog. If you're a contributor then you get a vote on which military charities receive the royalties. If you'd like to tell your story, or if you'd like to suggest a charity for the contributors to consider, then please contact me through Linkedin or on the blog.

I won't have official November-April sales data for another two months, but Amazon's "Author Central" reports some of the numbers. The book is gaining traction and it looks like the July royalty check will be even bigger.
